COMPASS BOX "PEAT MONSTER" SCOTCH WHISKY (Scotland) 750ML
Distillery Tasting Notes: “A whisky for lovers of complex, multi-layered peaty whiskies. What makes it fit perfectly into the COMPASS BOX house style is the balance of richness and subtle sweetness that the casks of Highland malt provide to the smoky-peaty Islay and island malts.
This is the great benefit of combining single malts from different distilleries; we are not limited to the produce of one distillery. Like a winemaker blending grape varieties, we can create layers of complexity. For recent batches, we have introduced even more complexity by adding some south shore Islay malt and island malt to enhance the peatiness and earthiness.
As with all our whiskies, several months of marrying before bottling allow the flavours of each of the whiskies to knit together.
You will find a spectrum of seaside and medicinal peatiness, along with kipper-like smokiness, all surrounding a core of fruity malt whisky character. THE PEAT MONSTER is a whisky for those who love intensity, flavour and freshness, balance and drinkability. A whisky for those who appreciate the blending of seemingly dissonant elements to create something sublime.”
Whisky Advocate "#9 on Top 20 of 2020" & 93 Points: “The much-beloved Peat Monster was recently given a new recipe designed to create greater depth and elegance. The peat influence, while still omnipresent, is now more subtle. On the nose it’s gentle and fragrant, wafting over candied citrus, lemon-frosted cake, and raspberry, along with classic peated undertones of charcoal and iodine. The palate is creamy in texture, with pleasant notes of brine, seashells, ashiness, and a floral peat influence that swirls gently around rich vanilla, tropical hints of lime, smoked meats, and generous spice. The finish offers bitter chocolate, lemon hard candy, and a bang of spice and smoke." —David Fleming
