Macurichos Sotol Cucharilla Puntas (Mexico) 750ML
Producer Notes: Maestro Mezcalero: Gonzalo Martinez Sernas
-Produced in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca
-100% Cucharilla (Dasylirion Serratifolium)
-Cooked in a conical underground oven using pine and mesquite
-Milled using a traditional stone tahona mill then fermented in open air pine vats (“tinas”)
-Distilled twice using traditional copper pot stills
-Fresh hay, lemongrass, toasted barley, and a touch of cilantro zip about amongst pleasant notes of orchard fruit (bosc pear skin, macoun apple) and a lingering touch of walnut shell. Delicious and dangerous fun.
-65% ABV
Maestro mezcalero Gonzalo Martinez Sernas prefers his spirits strong and intense. Whether by proof or by raw product, his recent batches could hardly encapsulate that impulse better.
This batch of "puntas”—the drinkable “heads” of a distillation run—are sure to set heads spinning both figuratively and literally. Historically considered “the mezcalero’s cut,” this is among the first releases of puntas to be commercially bottled and available in the USA.
