"20th Anniversary" (by Behrens and Hitchcock") Red Blend 2013 (Napa Valley, CA)

Producer Notes: This is our last wine with the Behrens & Hitchcock label, and we feel that we have ended on an excellent note! Made with love and grapes sourced from our best vineyards, this is a big and powerful wine, with sweet floral notes, hints of cinnamon and dark spice. Black fruit, cola and raspberry liquor are packed in the richly textured mouthfeel and long complex finish. Our good friends the Hitchcocks are now enjoying retirement. Be on the lookout for a wine dedicated to them in the not too distant future!

Wine Advocate, 95 Points: “The other 2013 is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 20th Anniversary. This is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 22% Syrah and 11% Petite Sirah. (I was up on Spring Mountain with Les Behrens, his wacky crew and the original Jack Russell at the beginning of their journey.) This is a spine-straightening, rich red wine with tons of extract and richness, an inky purple color, a boatload of tannin, but no rusticity. There are loads of blackberry and blueberry fruit, spring flowers, a broad, savory, thick unctuously textured mouthfeel and a long, long finish. This is classic Behrens wine and, if you are timid about flavor, or have bought into the P.C. wine culture of delicate undernourished and anorexic wines, this will be undeniably offensive. But don’t worry, this is a gorgeous effort and should last for 24 or more years."

VINOUS, 93 Points: “The 2013 B&H 20th Anniversary, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, is rich, unctuous and impeccably balanced. Super-ripe red cherry, jam, pomegranate, blood orange, cloves, new leather and spices all meld together effortlessly in the glass. Sweet floral and spice notes add aromatic intensity to the intensely red fruit-toned flavors. This is the last wine made under the old Behrens & Hitchcock label. Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot round out the blend."
