Naumes Family, Suncrest Pinot Noir 2016 (Rogue Valley, Oregon)
Producer Notes: The 2018 Pinot Noir fruit was gently handpicked early in the mornings of September 18th and 21st. The clusters were meticulously hand sorted, destemmed, then berry sorted both by hand and via optical sorter. The whole berries were then carefully gravity transferred to stainless steel, open top micro-fermenters, where the must was cold soaked to gently extract color and flavor. Using specially selected yeast strains, the fermentations were gently punched down by hand daily before being pressed in our gentle stainless-steel basket press. This wine was then carefully aged for 16 months in 100% French oak, with 35% new, and 20% once-filled French. After bottling the wine was allowed to bottle condition for many months prior to release to allow the wine to develop to its fullest potential.
Deep, dense aroma layered with earthy tones, spice and black fruits. With a little air, fragrant notes of black raspberry, sweet cured leather and fresh anise tease the senses. Nice tannins coat the pallet, but silky in nature lend to a soft, juicy mouthfeel and long finish. Richer Pinot Noir but incredibly soft and elegant a unique vintage in the high-elevation site in the Rogue Valley.
Wine Advocate, 90 Points: "Medium ruby, the 2016 Pinot Noir gives up aromas of spiced cranberries, red cherries, rhubarb and crushed blackberries with nuances of rose petal, tea leaf, fragrant earth and autumn leaves—a very pretty perfume! It's light to medium-bodied with restrained fruits, a soft frame and juicy freshness, finishing nuanced."
