Baca "Double Dutch" Zinfandel 2018 (Paso Robles, CA)
Producer Notes: DUSI VINEYARD Here, the sun drenches the vineyard and its rolling hills of rocky, alluvial soil. But then the sun sets and the cool comes in. It’s this extreme temperature swing that causes the fruit to keep its vibrant acidity while developing an intense berry profile, particularly bold spice notes of black pepper and licorice.
The 2018 vintage reveals the thoughtful side of Dusi’s personality. The color is an alluring translucent, garnet gemstone hue, while flavors of black cherry, cassis, licorice, and prairie grasses interplay over a smooth and velvety palate. A vinous grip of tannin on the finish contrasts nicely with the fruit and culminates in a finely balanced and elegant finish.
Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points: “Roasted blueberry and black-currant aromas are laid across wet rocks and dusted with a pinch of thyme on the rich and lush nose of this bottling, which satisfies like comfort food. The hearty blueberry and cassis flavors of the palate are layered with crushed oregano and more wild herbs. -MATT KETTMANN
